Independence of Mauritania
28 November marks the anniversary of Mauritania's independence from France in 1960. Today's capital Nouakchott was founded on the site of a small colonial village, Ksar. With independence, a large number of indigenous peoples arrived in Mauritania, crossing the Senegal River.
